Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine
The Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine (AChSHM) is a Chapter of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) Adult Internal Medicine Division that connects and represents Sexual Health Medicine Fellows and trainees in Australia and New Zealand.
We define standards of knowledge, practice and behaviour for medical practitioners aiming to specialise in Sexual Health Medicine. We provide training and continuing professional development, and promote excellence in skills, expertise and ethical standards.
The Chapter acts as an authoritative body for consultation in sexual health medicine. We advocate on behalf of our members and are committed to promoting the study of sexual health medicine with a clinical, public health and research approach to treatment.
We foster collaboration with health professionals and organisations through membership of the Australasian Sexual Health Alliance. The Sexual Health Alliance is our specialty society whose member organisations promote education and training in sexual health medicine and work to ensure the sexual health needs of the community are brought to the attention of government and professional bodies.
About Sexual Health Medicine
Sexual Health Medicine is the specialised area of practice concerned with healthy sexual relations. Sexual Health Medicine Physicians work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to improve the sexual health outcomes of the individual and the community by identifying and minimising sexual health issues through education, behaviour change, advocacy, screening, clinical service provision, surveillance and research.
Training in sexual health medicine
Sexual Health Medicine Advanced Training is three years in duration.
