The trainee, supervisor and other consultants are interviewed, usually by one member of the CPT and a representative of the relevant SAC/JSAC. The purpose of the interview is to hear, in detail, assessments by the supervisor and other consultants of the trainee's performance and to learn (separately) the trainee's views about the year's experience and performance.

Ideally specific problems are identified, remedial process defined with the relevant SAC/JSAC and supervisor, and decision communicated to the trainee. This process may, for example, require a future supervisor to pay special attention to specific areas of performance and to report back to the CPT at regular intervals. The results of not satisfying the remedial process are also clearly communicated to the trainee. For example, the trainee may need to undertake additional training or may, under extreme circumstances, be dismissed from the training program.
