- The assessment,
resuscitation and ongoing acute management of critically ill and injured
patients with life threatening single and multiple organ system failure.
- The assessment
and initial management of: airway obstruction; respiratory failure;
cardiovascular failure; coma of any cause; septicaemia and sepsis syndrome;
renal failure; under-nutrition; anticoagulation and fibrinolytics.
- Physiological monitoring
and clinical measurement.
- Cardiopulmonary
resuscitation.
- Airway management
including translaryngeal intubation.
- Invasive haemodynamic
monitoring including central venous, arterial and pulmonary artery cannulation
and the interpretation and clinical use of derived variables.
- Continuous renal
replacement therapy.
- Recognition and
understanding of the correct use of drugs and therapies within the ICU
pharmacopoeia: analgesics, sedatives, muscle relaxants, inotropic agents,
antidysrhythmia drugs, including digoxin, diuretics, antibiotic drugs
and fluids for resuscitation.

the value and limitations of currently available monitoring methods,
invasive and noninvasive devices, parameters, alarms and false alarms.
