Standard Requirements

Registration of basic trainees is compulsory from the commencement of the second year of basic training. Trainees should complete an Application for Registration as a Basic Physician Trainee form and send it to the College at the beginning of their basic training program, together with the fee. A fee is payable for each year of registration.

Separate fees are payable for both written and clinical components of the Examination.

Failure to Register

An unregistered basic trainee who wishes to sit the Examination must apply to the CPT. The training will be assessed by the CPT and the trainee will be notified of eligibility to sit the Examination.

Failure to register will incur higher written exam fees. Trainees are advised to contact the Wellington office to obtain detailed information in this regard.

Approval of Basic Training

At the time of application to sit the Examination the CPT will assess basic training and confirm that it meets the requirements and that the trainee is eligible to sit the Examination. The content of basic training must be detailed on the application form and verified by the relevant DPT. Forms are available from the Wellington Office, or a DPT.
