immunology and allergy may lead to practice in one of three categories: Trainees for the FRCPA (joint or separate programs) should obtain information regarding supervision and examination requirements from the Registrar of the RCPA Board of Censors. As a basis for advanced training in clinical and laboratory immunology, the trainee must acquire a detailed fundamental understanding of human immunology including the structure and function of the cellular and humoral components of the immune system; the types of tissue injury mediated by immunological and inflammatory mediators such as cytokines, complement components etc, and the mechanisms involved in the generation and control of immune responses to foreign proteins, allergens, micro organisms and autoantigens. |
