Towards A Safer Culture in Western
Australia
The 'TASC WA Stroke Project' website is now
on live at:
http://www.health.wa.gov.au/safetyandquality/TASC_WA/
Phase 1 of TASC has
been successfully piloted at John Hunter and
Nepean (NSW), Townsville (Qld) and Frankston
Hospital (Vic) since November 2000 and is currently
being rolled-out in 28 hospitals across NSW.
The aim of this process is to ensure that all
patients who present with chest pain or stroke
in participating hospitals receive the best emergency
treatment and secondary prevention.
The RACP is now working with the Western Australia
Department of Health to implement the TASC project
in Western Australia. This process will result
in standardised care in stroke in the Emergency
Departments of participating hospitals. Management
pathways will be based on proven risk stratification
strategies, which Emergency Physicians have found
to improve the safety of care.
The TASC project is a collaborative initiative
of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
(RACP) the Australasian College of Emergency
Medicine with the endorsement of the Australian
Association of Neurologists and the National
Stroke Foundation.
