Guidelines for Advanced Training in Paediatrics

Development of a Training Program

It is your responsibility to meet the mandatory requirements during some stage of your basic or Advanced Training.

In order to design an appropriate training program, both you and your supervisor need to be familiar with the general objectives of Advanced Training and the specific requirements for training in general or speciality paediatrics.

You and your supervisor should meet early in the training year to develop a suitable program that is
· consistent with the training requirements, and
· appropriate for the stage of training.

If you are in the first year of training, the supervisor should indicate to you what extent the Advanced Training program can be satisfied at that training site, and what training you need to undertake elsewhere. With your supervisor you should work out a tentative overall plan for the full three years of Advanced Training. If you are in the second or later years of Advanced Training, the training program should be planned to strengthen areas in which your training has been inadequate.
