Hospital Accreditation for Basic Training

Accreditation Procedures

A hospital that wishes to be granted status as a University Teaching Hospital or General Paediatric Teaching Hospital makes a formal application to the CPPT, which then arranges a site visit by two of its members. A formal report is submitted to the CPPT and, following ratification, is made available to the Chairperson/Director of the Division of Paediatric Medicine of that hospital.

In general the accreditation criteria need to be satisfied clearly for accreditation to be granted. However in exceptional circumstances the CPPT is given the discretion to waive one criterion if not fully met as long as other criteria are exceeded.

Following initial accreditation, re-accreditation visits are performed periodically (usually every seven years) or in the event of significant changes within a hospital.

The DPPT at a University Teaching Hospital (UTH) can recommend that a hospital be granted secondment status if it satisfies the above criteria. The recommendation is ratified by the CPPT.
