Activities in Basic TrainingCore DisciplinesThe following sections deal with the core paediatric disciplines and related areas in alphabetical order. The knowledge and skills listed are systems based and an attempt has been made to list these under the most appropriate system. Each is divided into Knowledge and Skills. It is understood that not all of you will have the opportunity to become proficient with all skills during a three-year training program. However it is important to observe each procedure being performed and, if possible, to participate in it as actively as possible. Medical knowledge and therefore the contents of these sections are changing rapidly, and they will be reviewed with each revision of this training guide to ensure that they remain current. Attention to the topics listed will ensure that you have covered, to a substantial degree, those areas of each discipline considered as essential core knowledge for an intending paediatrician. It is never possible to provide a rigid static curriculum of knowledge as this is always changing. Rather this should be viewed as a series of principles that should underpin the acquisition and application of knowledge. The relative coverage that each discipline receives is not indicative of the relative importance placed on each discipline in the training program, or in the FRACP Examination. It is strongly suggested that you consult with the DPPT about such matters. It is expected that you will seek knowledge from a variety of sources:
You should also note that paediatricians need to be life-long learners and that education is a continuing process. [ TOP ] [
