Infectious Diseases

Knowledge

  • common and important childhood infectious diseases: bacterial , viral, fungal and protozoal
  • prevention and containment of communicable diseases
  • antimicrobial therapy: clinical efficacy (evidence based), choice of appropriate agents.

Skills

  • interpretation of a gram stain, latex agglutination tests, urine and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), microscopy
  • interpretation of a Mantoux test
  • interpretation of antibiotic sensitivity tests.
