Training in Paediatrics Outside Australia and New Zealand

Basic Training

If you have undertaken training in other countries and wish to sit for the FRACP Examination, you should submit details of your training for consideration by the CPPT. A statement from the training institution, indicating its status should be provided with the above documentation. The CPPT will accept only training which is at least the equivalent of Basic Training in duration and content and undertaken in hospitals similar to those accredited in Australia and New Zealand.

If you are intending to train overseas you should seek advice from the CPPT before such training is undertaken. It is your responsibility to satisfy the CPPT that the training and supervision is satisfactory.

Advanced Training

Overseas training is encouraged. You should undertake at least one year of Advanced Training in Australia or New Zealand to ensure familiarity with the local practices. If you are intending to undertake Advanced Training outside Australia or New Zealand you should enquire about the suitability of the training positions with the CPPT or SACs/JSACs. In all cases, you must satisfy the CPPT or SACs/JSACs that the training and supervision in overseas training programs is satisfactory and of an acceptable standard.
