Dual
Fellowships Training Program (DFTP) in Paediatrics and Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry
Components
of Training
Seven years training
in total, including the three or four year dual program supervised by
the Joint Training Committee.
Pathway A
- Minimum of three years of clinical paediatrics, with at least two
years in a University Teaching Centre, supervised by the CPPT
- Some flexibility in content and timing of components of training
- Interruptions of training will be considered by the Joint Training
Committee on a case by case basis with reference to the requirements
of Pathways A and B.
From Paediatric Stream
(four years of training)
Minimum of eighteen months of training in adult psychiatry in an integrated
community training position with general hospital specialist hospital and
community based experience.
- Minimum of two years of training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry,
fulfilling all requirements of the Committee for Training in Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry (CTCAP).
- A further six months which may consist of:
- clinical paediatrics
- adult consultation-liaison psychiatry
- child consultation-liaison psychiatry
- Supervision is by the Joint Training Committee, with input from the
CTCAP and the CPPT
- All training positions must be accredited by the Joint Training Committee
- Although the timing of these components is flexible according to individual
requirements, training opportunities and assessment requirements, you
are strongly advised to enter a period of adult psychiatry once Basic
Training in paediatrics is completed.

Assessment
Pathway A ( from paediatric stream)
- Five case histories (5000-8000 words)
- Five case histories must be completed prior to the Section I
Examination
- It is required that at least two case histories be prepared for
adult patients
- Section I FRANZCP Examination - Written and Clinical
- Must complete thirty-six months of psychiatry training with all
the usual requirements (incorporating any exemptions granted)
- Dissertation (Section II FRANZCP Examination)
- To be presented following the Section I Examination, and towards
the end of psychiatry training
- Documentation and supervision of training as required by the Fellowships
Board.
