Other Specific
Requirements
You are strongly encouraged to attend at least one annual scientific meeting
of the Australian Society of Infectious Diseases during the three years
of training. This should be documented in the log book.
Research
This is encouraged, although the SAC has no specific requirement for research
to be undertaken as part of training.
Training Posts
A list of suitable training positions is available from the SAC. All training
positions will be evaluated by a site visit on a three to five yearly
basis. This evaluation may be by a site visit by at least two senior infectious
disease paediatricians, one of whom is a member of the SAC or their nominee.
A position appropriate for core training should be within a University
Teaching Hospital:
The hospital should have:
- a full-time infectious diseases paediatrician, or two or more part
time infectious diseases paediatricians with a total allocation of
1.0EFT per week (ie. full-time equivalent)
- a consultative service seeing at least 250 new consults per year
- inpatient and outpatient care of patients with infectious diseases,
providing the trainee with the opportunity to acquire a broad clinical
experience in infectious diseases and infection control
- regular clinical infectious diseases meetings designed for teaching
and consultation with related disciplines
- library facilities with ready access to all major infectious disease
journals and texts, and literature search facilities.
