Assessment
- Three Advanced Training projects
are required
A year of training is not accredited if a project is not being performed
concurrently and at least one project MUST be completed and accepted
by the end of the second year of Advanced Training in order to advance
to the third year. This project must be passed by the CPPT in February,
that is at the beginning of third year of Advanced Training. This
'second year rule' is now being
actively applied by the CPPT. In the unusual circumstance of a project
not being submitted by this deadline, the CPPT is willing to accredit
the second 6 months of the year
(for which you are applying) as the first
six months of your third year of advanced training; as long as a project
is submitted by 31 May and passed
by the CPPT/SAC.
- The exception is if critical appraisal skills have been previously
demonstrated eg: publications in a peer reviewed journal, or holding
of a higher degree awarded by thesis.
- At least 100 new outpatients should be seen over a three year period
and this should be certified by the supervisor
- Advanced Training supervisors are responsible for maintaining training
standards and it is recommended that a least one training supervisor
is always a general paediatrician who has appropriate training as
an Advanced Trainee supervisor.
- Consultative skills will be assessed by:
- direct observation
- review of written and verbal presentation
- review of consultation letters to referring doctors.
