College Ceremony

Background

The College Ceremony is an annual academic occasion for the admission to Fellowship of those who have recently successfully completed the full training program of the RACP.  This occasion encompasses:

  • the presentation of new Fellows of the Divisions, Faculties and Chapters to the President;
  • the presentation of Testamurs to the above mentioned new Fellows;
  • presentation of Examination Medals and Awards, College Medals, Faculty Medals and Prizes;
  • the conferring of Honorary Fellowships;
  • the Arthur E Mills Oration; and
  • the changeover of Presidents every two years.

Fellows unable to attend the Ceremony in the year they are admitted, can attend and be presented to the President at any Ceremony in the next five years.  However, their name will appear in the Ceremony Booklet only in the year of their admission.

Timing

The College Ceremony is traditionally held in May every year on the Sunday evening before the RACP Congress. The Ceremony commences at 4 to 6pm on the Sunday, immediately followed by the Ceremony Reception from 6 to 7 pm and the Graduating Fellows dinner at 7.30 pm. The RACP Congress (formerly known as the Annual Scientific Meeting, or ASM, until 2005) is held over three days, Monday to Wednesday, and follows the College Ceremony.

Venue

The College Ceremony is held at the same venue as the RACP Congress. The city and venue for the Congress, and therefore the College Ceremony and Reception, are usually known at least two years in advance and these are also links on this website.

The College Ceremony and the RACP Congress rotates each year around the States in Australia and in New Zealand.
