The prerequisite for entry to the Chapter training program is either Fellowship of one of the Medical Colleges or Faculties listed below, or completion of Basic Training (including success in the FRACP Examination) of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
Trainees can expect that training under the supervision of the Chapter will be of at least three years. However the Chapter Education Committee (ChEC) will assess the eligibility for entry to the training program and determine the requirements of the Chapter training program for each individual. An applicant for entry to the training program can expect that they may be asked to attend an interview with representatives of the ChEC.
In order to be accepted into the training program, an applicant must:
- Be a registered Medical Practitioner in Australia or New Zealand.
The applicant should provide documentation from the relevant Medical Board, at the time of initial application. - EITHER hold Fellowship of one of the following Colleges or Faculties
- Physicians (FRACP) - Adult Internal Medicine or Paediatrics & Child Health
- Dermatology (FACD)
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FRANZCOG)
- General Practice (FRACGP and FRNZCGP)
- Pathology (FRCPA)
- Psychiatry (FRANZCP)
- Public Health Medicine (FAFPHM)
- Surgery (FRACS - urology)
OR in the case of overseas trained specialists (including general practitioners) have been considered equivalent by the relevant Australasian medical college.
OR have completed Basic Training of the RACP* (including success in the FRACP Examination). Documentation from the relevant College or Faculty should be provided by the applicant at the time of initial application.
- have a satisfactory practice history (no professional misconduct or disciplinary issues).

Training is a minimum of 3 years. Trainees who hold Fellowship of an approved College may be granted 12 months retrospective accreditation if the previous training and experience meets the core requirements of the training program.
