Child Population Health
The Child Population Health Special Interest Group (CPH SIG) was established to represent the growing number of paediatricians and other health workers who have an interest in an ecological model of the determinants and outcomes of child health and a population perspective on improving child health outcomes, mainly focussed around prevention, health protection and health promotion.
It is envisaged that the CPH SIG will play a significant role in the Chapter of Community Child Health and the Paediatrics & Child Health Division in relation to:
- Supporting health professionals working within all disciplines related to child population health including epidemiology, health promotion, health protection, disease prevention, advocacy, strategy, planning, management, ethical and legal issues, and population-based health research;
- Providing support mechanisms for mutual support, supervision, mentoring and continuing education;
- Developing training in child population health;
- Advocating for child population health within health systems as a critical component of a comprehensive and whole of life approach;
- Providing advice to and for the RACP on matters affecting child population health.
- Establishing collaborative working relationships with other groups relevant to CPH.
What is the CPH SIG up to?
- Information sharing by email system of material relevant to CPH. All articles/documents, etc will also be placed on the RACP Public Access website so that closet CPH types can sneak on to the web and find out what we're on about.
- Formal and informal links have been established with the PHAA Child Health SIG (Public Health Association of Australia), the AFPHM (Faculty of Public Health Medicine) and PSNZ CCH (Paediatric Society of NZ, Community Child Health) and we look forward to establishing more links with other like-minded organisations.
- Contributed to the training curriculum for those interested in Community Paediatrics.
- Advocacy, advocacy, advocacy (you thought it was location, location, location!)
