The Basic Training PREP (Physician Readiness for Expert Practice) program requires a minimum 6 years to complete including: 3 years of Basic Training, successful completion of both the College Written and Clinical Examinations and then 3 or more years of Advanced Training during which the Trainee has the opportunity to specialise in one (or more) of 30 different specialty areas.
The program is designed to introduce and develop the range of core knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours required to become a competent physician or paediatrician. It is underpinned by three core curricula:
These three curricula and the associated teaching, learning, supervision, support and assessment strategies support all aspects of the trainee's learning journey.
The program reflects current Australian and New Zealand workplace practices. It places key emphasis on the provision of exemplary patient care within the context of an increasingly complex, multi-disciplinary team-based, working environment.
The curricula should be read in conjunction with the relevant College Handbook.
