Professional Qualities

The Professional Qualities Curriculum outlines the range of non-clinical/non-discipline-specific knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours required of, and commonly used by, all physicians and paediatricians regardless of specialty or area of expertise.

This curriculum spans both Basic Training and Advanced Training and extends into continuing professional development. It complements the themes and learning objectives detailed in the Paediatrics & Child Health and the Adult Internal Medicine curricula and each of the specialty-specific Advanced Training curriculum.

There are nine domains or areas of practice:

  • Communication
  • Quality and Safety
  • Teaching and Learning (Scholar)
  • Cultural Competency
  • Ethics
  • Clinical Decision Making
  • Leadership and Management
  • Health Advocacy
  • The Broader Context of Health
