The curriculum encompasses the totality of the learning experience and its environment. It is a total package of teaching and learning experiences designed to enable the trainee to reach specified learning objectives, to gain the related knowledge and skills, and to adopt attitudes and behaviours enabling the trainee to become a competent consultant Physician or Paediatrician.

The training curriculum consists of a set of interrelated documents outlining the specific learning objectives and related knowledge, skills and attitudes; teaching, learning and assessment strategies, and general academic and administrative requirements for all aspects of Physician and Paediatric Training across Australia and New Zealand. It contains a number of related support materials and structured learning packages which will facilitate the overall teaching, learning and assessment processes.
The Curriculum overview introduces and outlines the various components of the training program and associated teaching, learning and assessment strategies that will be utilised during Basic and Advanced training. It provides a context for the overall training program. Each curricula document has been (or will be) developed using a common format, thereby ensuring a degree of consistency and approach across the spectrum of training.
The Professional Qualities Curriculum (PQC) outlines the range of concepts and specific learning objectives required and used by all Physicians and Paediatricians, regardless of their specialty or area of expertise. All aspects of this curriculum will be taught, learnt and assessed within the context of everyday clinical practice and, where appropriate, will be given a subspecialty specific focus during Advanced Training.
