The purpose of the accreditation of training settings is:
The Adult Medicine Division Education Committee (AMDEC) and the Paediatrics & Child Health Division Education Committee (PDEC) both have standing Accreditation Subcommittees which accredit sites for basic training.
The criteria for accreditation of hospitals for basic training are available to download from this section of the website, as are the lists of hospitals currently accredited.
Hospitals seeking accreditation should write an email or letter briefly outlining how the hospital meets the relevant criteria, to:
The Chair
Accreditation Subcommittee (PDEC or AMDEC)
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians
145 Macquarie St
Sydney NSW 2000
Accreditation@racp.edu.au
The application will be considered and a site visit will be scheduled, which typically takes around 3 hours. At least three weeks before the visit, a survey form, anonymous trainee surveys, and an itinerary for the visit must be completed and submitted.
Each subspecialty education committee has specific criteria for accreditation of training settings. Accreditation is by either site visits and/or written documentation.
Criteria are available for download from this section of the website, along with lists of currently accredited settings.
For specific subspecialty information, send an email to the relevant specialty address.
