The Trainee Centred Learning model illustrates the interaction between the trainee, supervisors/assessors and the tools as well as the reports included in the Basic Training Portal (BTP).
The model also illustrates the roles of supervisors and assessors. Note that in some hospitals, depending on size and location, it may be that one individual undertakes all of the roles represented in the model.
The following pages break down the model to show the following:
A Ward/Service Consultant (WSC) does not access the portal as this role views the tools, Learning Needs Analysis (LNA) and mini-CEX, directly from the trainee. The BTP allows a trainee to email a pdf copy of a completed LNA or mini-CEX directly to their Ward/Service Consultant. A Ward/Service Consultant also completes a Ward/Service Consultant report accessible through the website and/or downloaded by their trainee.
An Educational Supervisor (ES) can view all the formative assessments a trainee completes. This makes up the evidence produced by the trainee to inform the end of year reports. In particular, the Educational Supervisor can view the Learning Needs Analysis (LNA), the mini-CEXs, the Ward/Service Consultant reports and whether a Professional Qualities Reflection (PQR) has occurred or not.
A Professional Development Advisor (PDA) can view a Professional Qualities Reflection (PQR).
A Director of Physician Education (DPE) can view all the formative assessments a Trainee completes, with the exception of a Professional Qualities Reflection (PQR), as well as the reports.
