Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs - Continuing Professional Development
When will MyCPD commence?
MyCPD commenced in May 2008 and is available online at www.racp.edu.au/mycpd.
Does MyCPD run on a 5 year cycle as well?
No, it doesn't. It is based on calendar years.
What about the MOPS program?
As transitional arrangements, the MOPS program will run parallel with MyCPD for two years (2008 and 2009) to allow Fellows to switch to the new program. Newly admitted Fellows will automatically be enrolled in MyCPD.
- How different are the MOPS and the new MyCPD program?
Though the recording of activities still remains, the categories, credit value of each category and annual requirement differs. It is an evidence based program, so elements of reflection and professional development plans are also incorporated into the program to allow Fellows to customise and individualise the program. - There will no longer be 5 year cycles - MyCPD runs on calendar years i.e. 1 January to 31 December 2008
- Credits are accrued based on six categories (instead of 12 categories in the MOPS program)
- There will be no compulsory categories as in MOPS with Quality Assurance.
- There will be some limitation to the credits accrued for a few categories. This is to allow for differences in individual practice but does not penalise those who are sole practitioners with little or no hospital or teaching commitment, or those who are isolated in rural locations. However, bonus credits may still be accrued through reflective learning for these categories.
What is the Annual Requirement of MyCPD?
The annual requirement to be considered actively participating in the MyCPD program is 100 credits. However, it is possible to remain active in the program without meeting the annual requirements if participants are ill, on maternity leave, or have other compelling reasons (at the discretion of the College).
Will you check what has been undertaken as part of MyCPD?
Yes, five per cent of participants will be selected for a random review each year. Those who have been selected will be required to show evidence to substantiate credits claimed. Participants who have been selected for a random review will be given one year immunity from being selected again.
I am living overseas. What are the reporting requirements for MyCPD?
Australian and New Zealand Fellows living overseas for an extended period may elect to participate in the CPD program offered by the appropriate College within that country either in addition, or as an alternative, to participating in the RACP CPD program.
I hold dual fellowship with another medical college do I need to be in both programs?
Fellows who are participating in a program of continuing professional development of another College, aligned to their specific practice needs, may elect not to participate in the RACP CPD program.
