Phasing Out the MOPS Program
The Maintenance of Professional Standards (MOPS) Program was implemented in 1994 by The Royal Australasian College of Physicians as a strategy to promote continuing professional development. Ongoing review of the program by the College, informed by research in the past decade on the application of adult learning principles in health care education, has led to the development of a simpler and more effective model for continuing professional development. The new MyCPD program was launched in May 2008.
MOPS is being phased out progressively over a transition period and will be withdrawn in 2010. During the transition transition period, MOPS and MyCPD program will run in parallel until 2009 allowing those already participating in MOPS time to change over to MyCPD. The MOPS program will be withdrawn in 2010. Fellows admitted to Fellowship from January 2008, will be automatically enrolled into MyCPD.
