Credit points - calculating and claiming

When calculating the number of credit points for attendance at meetings etc, the total number of points should not be inclusive of meal breaks. As a general principle, no credit points should be claimed for committee work of a purely business/administrative nature. However, workshops and educational meetings that are arranged by the various committees may attract points if it is deemed that those workshops or meetings have a significant educational component (e.g. meetings of the self-assessment program committees and of the written question setting committees of the Committee for Examinations).

Where Participants are involved in committee work because of their discipline or clinical expertise, points should be claimed within the Practice-related Continuing Medical Education category, attracting 0.5 credit points per hour (e.g. reviewing research proposals for the NHMRC).

Annual MOPS return forms

A form will be sent to you at the end of each year and this should be returned to the College by no later than February of the following year.

Members of this website are also able to submit their annual MOPS points electronically online.

Submitting supporting documentation

Participants are not required to submit supporting documentation verifying the activities they have undertaken with their annual MOPS return form.
Documentation is only required to be submitted if a participant is selected for a random review.

Random Review

Five percent of participants will be subject to a random review of their documentation each year. The review requires participants to send in verifying documentation on request (e.g. diaries, programs, publications or other items). This request is usually made in April of each year for the preceding year.

If a participant fails to substantiate an annual MOPS return he/she will be required to submit supporting documentation for the following year at the time of submission of their points. Points will not be credited until the documentation has been reviewed. Once a participant has successfully completed a random review within a particular cycle, they are ineligible for a second review for the remainder of that cycle.
