The curriculum encompasses the totality of the learning experience and its environment. It is a total package of teaching and learning experiences designed to enable the trainee to reach specified learning objectives, to gain the related knowledge and skills, and to adopt attitudes and behaviours enabling the trainee to become a competent consultant physician or paediatrician.
The training curriculum consists of a set of interrelated documents outlining the specific learning objectives and related knowledge, skills and attitudes; teaching, learning and assessment strategies, and general academic and administrative requirements for all aspects of Physician and Paediatric Training across Australia and New Zealand. It contains a number of related support materials and structured learning packages which will facilitate the overall teaching, learning and assessment processes.
The RACP will introduce the following curricula with the commencement of the new training program in 2008:
These curricula have been piloted extensively in Australia and New Zealand.
Advanced training curricula are currently being developed for each sub-specialty and are at various stages of development. These will be progressively rolled out from 2008.
