| VicFEAT - Victorian Further Education and Training Audience: Paediatrics and Advanced Trainees | There are five VicFEAT meetings in each year. They are hosted on Wednesday nights at RACP Victoria from 7pm-8.30pm (Melbourne/Sydney time). The 90 minute meetings are attended by 50 - 75 people in our auditorium. Usually each meeting is a case based discussion of a relevant paediatrics by experts in that specialty. Speakers are invited to talk about paediatric medical issues to provide current information for paediatric practice. | National Brain School Audience: Neurology trainees and Fellows | The National Brain School Series for 2008 will run from 2-5pm (Sydney/Melbourne time) on the second Wednesday of every month from February to November. Each month will see different presenters talking on their specialty area. Some of the topics to be covered this year include stroke aetiology, generalised epilepsy, non-migraine headaches and viral and opportunistic infection. The 3 hour lectures use case vignettes which often include video, neurophysiology, imaging or pathology as part of their presentations. | Physician Education Program Lecture Series Audience: Basic Physician Trainees and Fellows | The national Physician Education Program is a series of 135 lectures delivered over 45 evenings on Thursdays, 6:30 to 9pm Melbourne time. The lectures are designed to provide resource material for basic trainees wishing to sit the FRACP Written examination and to provide up-skilling resource material for Fellows of the College in contemporary topics. | P.E.P. Preparation for the Clinical Exam Stream Audience: Basic Physician Trainees who are looking to site their exam and Fellows | The Preparation for the Clinical Exam Stream is a series of 10, 2 hour lectures aimed at trainees who completed the P.E.P lecture series in 2007. | Continuing Education Workshops Audience: Physicians and physician trainees | The Continuing Education sessions are run 4 times a year from 9am - 11:30am (Sydney/Melbourne time) on Saturday mornings at RACP Victoria. The meetings are also attended by regional hospitals throughout Australia via videoconference. The workshops are broken up into 3 sessions, with each session focusing on an update in a certain specialty (please check the website for the order of specialties). Each speaker is invited to give a 45 minute presentation on relevant updates in their area of expertise, and invites questions from both the host and remote sites at the end of their presentation. | Buprenorphine-naxalone Advanced Prescribers' Workshops Audience: Eligible GP's prescribers in NSW | Buprenorphine-naloxone is a dispensed medication with the potential for unsupervised dosing. The Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine recently released its guidelines on buprenorphine-naloxone and will be conducting 4-hour interactive workshops for Advanced Prescribers. Prescribers in New South Wales are required by the NSW Department of Health to satisfactorily complete the training module in order to be authorised to prescribe the medication. Program TBC. | Rural Child Health Training Scheme Audience: Rural & Isolated Paediatricians | The average age of Victoria's rural Paediatricians continues to rise (now over 50 years) and there are several towns in rural Victoria that have been unable to recruit Paediatricians for several years. Junior doctors coming through paediatric training are getting inadequate exposure to rural career options in part due to perceived problems with access to a proper training programs and protected time to be able to access training, whilst still providing paediatric services to the rural population. The curriculum of this program aims to provide a structured series of relevant rural topics aimed at enhancing the learning experience and making training in a rural position less isolated. | Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine Training Sessions Audience: Fellows and Trainees of AFPHM and other interested health professionals | In 2008 the Australasian Facility of Public Health Medicine is running a monthly 2 hour education series from RACP Sydney; which will also be accessible via videoconference venues throughout Australia. The education series is aimed at trainees and fellows, as well as, any other interested health professionals. Starting in February and running through to October; each session will address a current public health issue. | NZ Paediatric Basic Trainee Program | A New Zealand Lecture Series hosted at the Starship Hospital. The meetings are also attended by regional hospitals throughout Australia via videoconference. This teaching programme runs from June until February, concluding just prior to the Part 1 written examination which is in early March. The teaching course is delivered each Thursday afternoon from 15.00 to 17.00 hours (New Zealand time). Each session is accessible in real time through telepaediatrics with this link enabling interaction between the teachers and those preparing for the part 1 examinations. | QLD RACP State Committee Ad Med Physician Basic Trainee lectures Audience: Adult Medicine Physician Basic Trainees and Fellows | The aim of the lectures is to assist Ad Med Basic Trainees in their preparations for the FRACP exams, to offer an opportunity to see and hear local specialists and to provide social interaction for those attending live. Fellows are welcome to join as the talks serve as excellent updates. Lectures are filmed, DVDs are produced (hospital subscription available - see registration form), and the DVD footage is also placed on a password protected website for viewing and downloading by individual registrants. Lecture handouts are distributed electronically each week along with any extra Word doc or pdf journal articles which lecturers may submit. It istherefore possible to complete the entire Lecture Series online. |
