Transition arrangements to support the introduction of the new Basic Training Program

2008 Training Requirements for 1st Year Basic Physician Trainees

As 2008 is a transitional year from the old Basic Training Program to the new program, a degree of flexibility in training requirements will be permitted. This will enable the various learning and formative assessment tools to be fully implemented and for Supervisors and Trainees to become familiar with their use.

It is College policy that no Trainee will in any way be disadvantaged during this period of transition.

Although there are no minimum requirements in 2008, where possible, 1st Year Basic Trainees in 2008 should aim to complete the following:

  • 4 Learning Needs Analysis - to be discussed at quarterly meetings with the Educational Supervisors
  • 4 Mini- CEXs approximately every 3 months
  • 1 Multi-Source Feedback
  • 2 SIATs (reflective learning tool) to be discussed with the Professional (1 SIAT per 6 months of training)
  • Development Advisor at meetings scheduled approximately every 6 months
  • A Mid-year Progress Report (to be completed by the Educational Supervisor)
  • An Annual Progress Report (to be completed by the Educational Supervisor)

Letter to 1st Year Basic Trainees sent in July 2008 advising that there are no minimum requirements for formative assessments in 2008.
