Overview
Medical education is a continuum that extends from medical school throughout a doctor's career. The RACP is dedicated to providing trainees and Fellows with a high standard of educational support to assist in the achievement of their learning goals.
A learner-centred approach to teaching and learning places the responsibility of knowledge and skills acquisition upon the learner. Over time, the learner actively constructs networks of knowledge and skills (schemata) by building links between new information and their existing knowledge base. The learner also continually modifies and reorganises these knowledge networks to accommodate new information.
The Educator's role is to facilitate the process of knowledge acquisition (not to spoon-feed facts) by equipping learners with strategies and tools to effectively acquire, assimilate, apply and retain knowledge.
