Sufficient prior notice needs to be given for a site visit to take place. The Division Education Committees both have standing Accreditation Sub-Committees which Advise and act as a resource to the Division Education Committees, on all matters (methods and processes) related to the accreditation of sites for Basic Training

The Criteria for Accreditation of Hospitals for Basic Training in Adult Medicine and Paediatrics & Child Health are publicly available on the College website, as are the lists of teaching hospitals accredited for Basic Training in Adult Medicine and Paediatrics & Child Health.

Accreditation of Training Sites for Advanced Training

Site Accreditation is carried out by the supervising Committee (eg. Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) etc) for each specialty area. Each supervising Committee has specific criteria for accreditation. Site Accreditation for Advanced Training is carried out by either site visits and/or written documentation. Where site visits are part of a supervising Committee's accreditation criteria, follow-up visits are generally done on a five-year basis.

Sites Accredited for Advanced Training need to demonstrate to the supervising Committee for each specialty area, that they have suitable staff, clinical activities, case load, facilities and interdisciplinary teaching activities to permit advanced training as outlined in each specialty specific accreditation criteria.
