Training Site Accreditation
The purpose of the accreditation of training settings is to
- To facilitate approval of training programs and / or positions.
- To determine:
- If there is an appropriate level of supervision for physician training
- If there is sufficient clinical experience
- If there are opportunities for continuing education and research during physician training
- If there is suitable infrastructure for physician training - To provide recommendations for the improvement of training at sites
- To assist trainees to select a site suitable to their current training needs.
The Adult Medicine Division Education Committee (AMDEC) and the Paediatrics & Child Health Division Education Committees (PDEC) both have standing Accreditation Subcommittees which accredit sites for basic training.
The criteria for accreditation of hospitals for basic training are available to download here, as are the lists of teaching hospitals currently accredited.
Hospitals seeking accreditation should write an email or letter briefly outlining how the hospital meets the relevant criteria, to:

Advanced Training Site Accreditation
Each specialty supervising committee has specific criteria for accreditation of positions and settings. Accreditation is by either site visits and/or written documentation and is typically done on a five year cycle.
Criteria are available for download here, along with lists of currently accredited settings.
