The Faculty has a number of committees set-up to manage the direction of the Faculty. These are overseen by the Faculty Council which reports to the RACP Board.

Faculty Council

The responsibilities and functions of the Faculty Council are outlined in the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine By-Laws.

Faculty Policy and Advocacy Committee

The Faculty Policy and Advocacy Committee develop, coordinate, implement, and monitor policy and advocacy interests and activities of the Faculty.The Committee gives advice on policy and advocacy issues in Public Health Medicine to the Faculty Council and the College Policy and Advocacy Committee (CPAC), and receives College-wide policy advice from the College Committee.

Faculty Education Committee

The Faculty Education Committee manages and implements education policies and programs for trainees in public health medicine, and for the continuing professional development of Fellows.

The Faculty Education Committee consists of Lead Fellows for; Accreditation, Assessment, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Overseas Trained Physicians (OTP), Physician Educators, and Teaching and Learning. Each Lead Fellow can convene a sub-committee to work on specific tasks in their respective areas.

Sub-Committees

Accreditation Sub-Committee

The role of the Accreditation Sub-Committee is to:

  1. Oversee the accreditation process to ensure that an appropriate safe and effective learning environment exists within training sites occupied by Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine Trainees within Australia,
  2. Provide support to Faculty Regional Committees to facilitate the identification and development of suitable placements for training, and
  3. Assist sites to maintain their accreditation status.

Assessment Sub-Committee

The Assessment Sub-Committee reviews assessment procedures to ensure that they are fair. It makes recommendations to the Faculty Education Committee and Faculty Council on any new procedures for the future.

The Sub-Committee oversees the assessment processes for any Faculty exams; organising the examiners, arranging exam support for trainees through exam preparation teleconferences and videoconferences, and determining whether trainees have successfully met the requirements to be awarded Fellowship of the Faculty.

The Assessment Sub-Committee reports to the Faculty Education Committee.

CPD Sub-Committee

The CPD program is administered by the CPD Sub-Committee which is responsible for:

  1. Providing leadership in the advancement of continuing professional development,
  2. Identifying opportunities for continuing professional development,
  3. Acting as a clearing house for information relating to CPD activities,
  4. Ensuring the Faculty maintains its professional standards in continuing professional development,
  5. Working closely with Regional Committees to assist Fellows achieve their CPD requirements, and
  6. Developing a list of high quality resources appropriate for self-directed learning.

Teaching and Learning Sub-Committee

The Teaching and Learning Sub-Committee provides advice and support to the Faculty Education Committee on teaching and learning matters relevant to AFPHM trainees. The Sub-Committee oversees regional processes for recruitment, training, career development and support of Public Health Medicine trainees. It is made up of Regional Education Coordinators who are the main contact for trainees in their jurisdiction and approve training plans and supervisor reports.

The Sub-Committee promotes consistency in application of policies and procedures at a national and regional level including; Supervision; Monitoring trainee progress and readiness for assessment; Mentoring and Educational programs.
