Welcome to the homepage of the Palliative Medicine Education Committee (PMEC). This page is intended to be a central information point for all trainees and supervisors involved in Advanced Training in Palliative Medicine with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
PREP Advanced Trainees are classified as those who commenced Advanced Training in Palliative Medicine in 2011 or later.
PREP Program Requirement Handbooks
Training requirements for PREP Advanced Training in Palliative Medicine are detailed in the 2012 PREP Advanced Training in Palliative Medicine Program Requirements Handbook. This handbook will be updated and published annually to ensure that the requirements for PREP Advanced Training in Palliative Medicine are in line with educational best practice. It is the responsibility of the trainee to ensure that they are following the correct guidelines for that training year.

Curricula
The Palliative Medicine Advanced Training Curriculum and the Professional Qualities Curriculum outline the broad concepts, related learning objectives and the associated theoretical knowledge, clinical skills, attitudes and behaviours required and commonly utilised by palliative medicine physicians and paediatricians within Australia and New Zealand.
Pre-PREP Advanced Trainees are classified as those who commenced Advanced Training in Palliative Medicine prior to 2011.
Pre-PREP trainees should refer to the training requirements which were applicable at the commencement of their Advanced Training in Palliative Medicine.
FAChPM trainees must apply for entry into the training program before they begin advanced training. The entry requirements are found on the application.
All Advanced Trainees must prospectively register with the College on an annual basis to outline their proposed training for the year.
An online process of registration is now in place for Australian Advanced Trainees in Palliative Medicine.
New Zealand Advanced Trainees in Palliative Medicine must complete a paper-based application.
Interruption of training / withdrawal from training
This form is for trainees who intend to interrupt training, take extended leave (over 8 weeks in any training year) from training, or withdraw from training. Trainees are advised to retain a copy of the completed form for their records.
Continuation of registration
This form is for trainees who have completed 36 months (or more for some joint training programs) of full-time equivalent Advanced Training, but have not completed all training requirements of the PMEC to enable recommendation to Fellowship of the College.
Case study coversheet
This form is for trainees who will be submitting the case study which is due in their first year of advanced training.
Project coversheet
This form is for trainees who will be submitting the project which is due in their final year of advanced training.
