Clinical Nutrition
Training in clinical nutrition is supervised by the SAC. The guidelines are available from the College.

Dermatology

In Australia, those who have completed basic physician training (and the FRACP Examinations), and who have satisfied the training requirements of the Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD) may be admitted to FRACP upon completion of one additional prospectively approved year of advanced physician training in general medicine. In New Zealand training in dermatology is undertaken under the auspices of the RACP and has its own SAC.

Geriatric Medicine

It is possible to satisfy the requirements of both the SAC in General Medicine and the SAC in Geriatric Medicine in a 4-year advanced training program with admission to FRACP being possible at the end of the third year. This is not a joint program and there is no Joint SAC. Before embarking on such a program, trainees are urged to seek guidance from both SACs or the Training Section of the College office.

Advanced trainees may wish to explore opportunities for ‘combined training’ which might involve post FRACP training.

Obstetric Medicine
For physicians who wish to concentrate on this field, or practice general medicine with an interest in the obstetric medicine, at least one year of their advanced training should be devoted to gaining experience in the area. This would necessarily involve attendance at a maternity hospital with an appropriately experienced physician. A curriculum for training in obstetric medicine under the SAC has been developed and is available from the College on request.

Psychiatry

Although there is no JSAC for supervision of training in psychiatry, there is a provision for those who have completed basic training in medicine and who wish to train in psychiatry. Programs must be approved prospectively by the SAC, and these trainees must also have satisfied the training requirements of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). A prospectively approved year of advanced physician training would be required before admission to Fellowship, in addition to the completion of training in psychiatry.
Advanced trainees may wish to explore opportunities for 'combined training' which might involve post FRACP training.
