General Principles of Training Training in clinical immunology and allergy may lead to practice in one of 3 categories:
As a basis for advanced training in clinical and laboratory immunology, the trainee must acquire a detailed fundamental understanding of human immunology including: the structure and function of the cellular and humoral components of the immune system; the types of tissue injury mediated by immunological and inflammatory mediators such as cytokines, complement components, etc.; and the mechanisms involved in the generation and control of immune responses to foreign proteins, allergens, micro organisms and autoantigens.
