Summary of Basic Training Administrative Requirements
Prerequisites for Entry to Basic Training
  • completed intern year;
  • obtained a position in a level 1, level 2 or level 3 teaching hospital.

Basic Training Registration
 

Stage in Basic TrainingRegistration Information
First Year
(PGY2)
  • registration voluntary;
  • the fee will not be incurred; all benefits of a registered trainee will be received.
Second Year
(PGY3)
  • registration is compulsory;
  • fee is payable;
  • non registration before the deadline will result in higher administrative fees being payable;
  • non registration will result in ineligibility to sit for the Written Examination.
Third Year
(PGY4)
  • registration is compulsory;
  • fee is payable;
  • non registration before the deadline will result in higher administrative fees being payable;
  • non registration will result in ineligibility to sit for the Written Examination.
Fourth and subsequent (PGY5 or later)
  • continuation of registration is compulsory if basic training has been completed and the examination requirements have not been completed;
  • conditional advanced training is possible if all other requirements of basic training have been completed.
