General Information Summary of Basic Training Administrative Requirements Prerequisites for Entry to Basic Training completed intern year; obtained a position in a level 1, level 2 or level 3 teaching hospital. Basic Training Registration   Stage in Basic Training Registration Information First Year (PGY2) registration voluntary; the fee will not be incurred; all benefits of a registered trainee will be received. Second Year (PGY3) registration is compulsory; fee is payable; non registration before the deadline will result in higher administrative fees being payable; non registration will result in ineligibility to sit for the Written Examination. Third Year (PGY4) registration is compulsory; fee is payable; non registration before the deadline will result in higher administrative fees being payable; non registration will result in ineligibility to sit for the Written Examination. Fourth and subsequent (PGY5 or later) continuation of registration is compulsory if basic training has been completed and the examination requirements have not been completed; conditional advanced training is possible if all other requirements of basic training have been completed.
