General Information
Criteria for Accreditation of a Level 2 Teaching Hospital (Australia)
A level 2 teaching hospital shall have a dedicated paediatric service which offers:
  • general paediatric medicine, including inpatient and outpatient services;
  • some sub-specialty medical and surgical paediatric services should be available on a regular basis
  • general paediatric surgery;
  • a neonatal intensive care unit;
  • paediatric intensive care services;
  • paediatric emergency department services with specific services for children;
  • a community paediatric, child development or mental health service;
  • paediatric radiology and diagnostic laboratory services;
  • an academic paediatric presence of at least Associate Professorial status, and continuous involvement in medical student training;
  • at least four general paediatricians;
  • a Director of Neonatal Services;
  • an emergency paediatrician with specific paediatric training;
  • at least four paediatric registrar or resident positions at Basic Trainee level;
  • at least two Advanced Trainee positions.
