General Information Criteria
for Accreditation of a Level 2 Teaching Hospital (Australia) A level
2 teaching hospital shall have a dedicated paediatric service which offers:
- general paediatric medicine, including inpatient and outpatient services;
- some
sub-specialty medical and surgical paediatric services should be available
on
a regular basis
- general paediatric surgery;
- a neonatal
intensive care unit;
- paediatric intensive care services;
- paediatric
emergency department services with specific services for children;
- a community
paediatric, child development or mental health service;
- paediatric radiology
and diagnostic laboratory services;
- an academic paediatric presence of
at least Associate Professorial status, and continuous involvement in medical
student training;
- at least four general paediatricians;
- a Director
of Neonatal Services;
- an emergency paediatrician with specific paediatric
training;
- at least four paediatric registrar or resident positions at
Basic Trainee level;
- at least two Advanced Trainee positions.
