Prerequisites for Entry to Basic Training
  • completed intern year;
  • obtained a position in a level 1, level 2 or level 3 teaching hospital.
Basic Training Registration

Stage in Basic TrainingRegistration Information
First Year
(PGY2 or later)
  • registration voluntary;
  • trainees may wish to register during this year; the fee will not be incurred; all benefits of a registered trainee will be received.
Second Year
(PGY3 or later)
  • registration is compulsory;
  • fee is payable;
  • non registration will result in higher fees being payable with the subsequent registration;
  • non registration will result in ineligibility to sit for the Written Examination.
Third Year
  • registration is compulsory;
  • fee is payable;
  • non registration will result in higher fees being paid with the subsequent registration;
  • non registration will result in ineligibility to sit for the Written Examination.
Fourth Year
  • continuation of registration is compulsory upon satisfactory completion of basic training and if the examination requirements have not been completed;
  • conditional advanced training is possible if all the other requirements of basic training have been completed satisfactorily.
