Description

Looking for a clinically rich, professionally rewarding, and truly unique training experience? Alice Springs Hospital (ASH) is seeking applications for a Respiratory Medicine Advanced Trainee (6 month Core) position starting August 2026.

ASH has RACP provisional accreditation for Core Respiratory Medicine Advanced Training, offering a structured, well-supervised program. As the regional referral centre for Central Australia, ASH services a vast and diverse population across more than one million square kilometres.

Approximately 75–85% of patients identify as Aboriginal, providing trainees with valuable experience managing complex respiratory diseases—such as bronchiectasis, COPD, tuberculosis, and interstitial lung disease—within a cross-cultural context. This role offers high procedural exposure, including bronchoscopy, pleural ultrasound, thoracocentesis, and intercostal catheter insertion, alongside strong training in respiratory physiology and interpretation of advanced lung function tests. Trainees also gain experience in sleep and ventilation medicine, including NIV/CPAP management.

You'll benefit from close supervision by experienced physicians, protected weekly teaching, and access to educational and research opportunities. Collaboration with tertiary centres and outreach work to remote communities further enhance the training experience. Alice Springs offers a unique outback lifestyle, with a welcoming community, stunning landscapes, and easy access to outdoor activities.
