Career Development Fellowships
Applications for 2025 funding open 1 May to 1 July 2024.
Career Development Fellowships are intended for mid-career researchers who completed their research higher degree over seven years ago and/or researchers who aren't eligible for either Research Entry or Research Establishment awards.
Applicants who hold significant NHMRC, MRFF or other Category 1 funding, which would be held concurrently with an RACP Fellowship, will be given lower priority when being considered for RACP funding.

RACP Fellows Career Development Fellowship
Purpose: To encourage and support the promotion of research in medical specialty areas represented by the RACP Divisions, Faculties and Chapters. Funds may be used to:
- provide stipend support
- other support such as laboratory set-up costs
- a short-term Research Assistant appointment
Value: Up to AUD$100,000 for 1 year.
Eligibility: Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Fellows of the RACP's Divisions, Faculties and Chapters who:
- have comprehensive research experience
- completed their higher research degree over seven years ago
Tenable: Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand or overseas.
This Fellowship is supported by donations from RACP Life Fellows.
Don & Lorraine Jacquot Career Development Fellowship
Purpose: To provide opportunities for nephrologists and Fellows of the RACP who have completed a postgraduate research higher degree, or have substantial research experience, and are still at an early stage in their career. The recipient will be expected to:
- carry out independent and/or team research
- undertake activities to develop their expertise in biomedical, clinical and/or public health research
- have clearly defined outcomes and objectives
Value: Up to AUD$100,000 for 1 year.
Recipients are eligible to apply for continuation of funding for up to 2 years but must demonstrate significant progress in their subsequent application.
Eligibility: Nephrologists who are Fellows of the RACP that wish to further their studies in the treatment and control of renal disease in a university, hospital or research centre, and have:
- completed a PhD (or equivalent research higher degree) or have substantial research experience in nephrology disciplines
- research experience and evidence of research ability, such as publications, conference papers, reports, professional or technical contributions
- evidence of original intellectual input into research
Tenable: Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand or overseas.
This Fellowship is supported by a bequest of the late Don and Lorraine Jacquot and co-administered by the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology (ANZSN).
RACP MAIC Career Development Fellowship
Purpose: To promote research capacity and capability to improve knowledge on:
- medical conditions or illnesses which cause or contribute to motor vehicle accidents (MVAs)
- medical treatments or approaches that improve health outcomes for people involved in MVAs
- rehabilitation of people who sustain a temporary or permanent disability through MVAs
- improving longer term outcomes of people injured in MVAs including pain management, community re-integration, psychosocial, mental health and vocational outcomes
Value: Up to AUD$100,000 for 1 year.
Recipients are eligible to apply for a continuation of funding for a second year but must demonstrate significant progress in their subsequent application.
Eligibility: Australian or Aotearoa New Zealand Fellows of the RACP's Divisions, Faculties and Chapters who:
- completed their higher research degree over seven years ago
- have demonstrable research and clinical experience
Tenable: Queensland. An exception can be made if there is a demonstrable benefit to the state of Queensland from the research being undertaken elsewhere in Australia.
Special requirements: Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) requires a final report that outlines how the outcome of the research contributes towards lessening the risk of MVA injuries and/or improving the outcomes of people injured in MVAs.
This Fellowship is supported by a grant from the Queensland Motor Accident Insurance Commission, matched with contributions from RACP Members.

Croxon Career Development Fellowship in Alzheimer Disease Research
Purpose: For research or training into the causes, prevention and treatment of Alzheimer Disease. Funding to be used to:
- provide stipend support
- other support such as laboratory set-up costs
- a short term Research Assistant appointment
Value: Up to AUD$100,000 for 1 year.
Eligibility: Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Fellows of the RACP's Divisions, Faculties and Chapters.
Tenable: Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand or overseas.
