Description

The AFRM Council is seeking to appoint an Academic representative. The Fellow in this role should have a strong background in academia and research. The Academic Representative will assist the AFRM President and Council in fostering the development of AFRM research capacity.

The Academic Representative is expected to create connections between the AFRM Council and other key Committees. In addition to sitting on the AFRM Council, the Academic Representative will also Chair the AFRM Research Committee and sit on the following bodies:

  • RACP Congress Planning Committee
  • RMSANZ Annual Scientific Meeting Organizing Committee
  • Australasian Rehabilitation Research Network (after it is officially launched).

The AFRM Council has been established to:

  • support the professional development of Fellows and Trainees of the Faculty;
  • work with appropriate College Bodies and staff to lead:-
    • education, training and assessment of trainees;
    • training and continuing professional development;
    • policy and advocacy;
    • the assessment of overseas trained professionals,
    • workforce; and
    • research

    as each relates to Rehabilitation Medicine;

  • promote and advance the body of knowledge in Rehabilitation Medicine;
  • act as the College’s authoritative source of advice in connection with Rehabilitation Medicine; and
  • recommend to the Board candidates for membership of the Faculty.

The AFRM Research Committee has been established to act as the authoritative source of direction and advice for rehabilitation medicine research.

The functions of the AFRM Research Committee include:

  • to prepare a proposed list of research-related activities on an annual basis;
  • develop, coordinate, implement, and monitor research-related activity approved by the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine Council; and
  • contribute to research matters in rehabilitation medicine to the College Research Committee.

The AFRM Council and the AFRM Research Committee both meet 4 times a year, usually by Zoom.

The College meets the travel costs of Council Members for any face-to-face meetings.
