The National Occupational Respiratory Disease Registry, established in May 2024 and led by the Australian Department of Health and Aged Cares, is gathering data on both mandatory notifications of silicosis diagnoses and voluntary notifications of other occupational respiratory diseases. The registry's goal is to reduce and eventually eliminate preventable occupational respiratory diseases in Australia while enhancing understanding of these conditions.

The advisory group will:

• review and provide feedback on the features of the National Registry and Physician Portal.
• advise on actions to improve the quality of data collected through the Physician Portal.
• recommend improvements to the National Registry, in line with emerging diagnostic practices for occupational respiratory diseases.
• be chaired by a senior official within the Department of Health and Aged Care.
• receive sitting remuneration as determined by the Department.

Note: the frequency of meetings is yet to be determined.

Criteria

There are several positions available. Members are invited to submit nominations with suitable expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Sleep and Respiratory Medicine
• Occupational and Environmental Medicine
• Occupational Hygiene
• Occupational Epidemiology
• Disease Registry Operation

You’re submitting your nomination as an individual, not as a representative of the RACP or any other organisation. The College will send your documents to the Department, which will handle its own selection process.
