The Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) has released a Guide to Pregnancy and Work (PDF 288KB).

The guide brings together relevant information from the existing literature as well as the best available evidence to provide guidance on the safe management of pregnancy in the workplace for employers, employees and health professionals.

It highlights the many benefits of a pregnancy-friendly workplace and provides advice to employees at different stages of their pregnancy to remain successfully integrated in the workplace prior to becoming pregnant, and once they become pregnant, to assist in their subsequent return to work.

The guide also provides information about potential workplace hazards, risk assessments and control; outlines guidance for employers on policies, procedures and plans for accommodating pregnancy in the workplace and outlines information on equal opportunity.
