Help the College to better inform workforce decision making
13 Nov 2017
The RACP is establishing a physician workforce profile and is calling on Fellows to enter their practice activity through a new feature in MyRACP. We understand many Fellows complete workforce information for other organisations, but these are often fragmented and designed around a specific question. RACP seeks to gather information in one place to establish an authoritative data set of the physician workforce to better inform workforce decision making.
It may surprise you to learn that the hours you work, what activities you are engaged in and where you do your work are largely unknown across the physician and paediatrician profession.
We understand many Fellows complete workforce information for other organisations, but these are often done for a specific purpose, or to answer a specific question. These different data sets prove difficult to match up, making it very difficult to establish a clear, consistent view of the physician workforce across Australia and New Zealand. As a result, many Government decisions on workforce are based on largely anecdotal data.
As a response to this, RACP seeks to gather information in one place to establish an authoritative data set of the physician workforce. This will enable the College to better inform decision makers on workforce matters. This will also assist our future decision making for physician education programs.
To do this, we need your help. A new feature has been added to MyRACP where you can update your work details including what percentage of your time is spent the various aspects of medical practise and research including supervision, teaching, research and clinical practice (public and private).
No individual data will be used and members’ privacy will be maintained. It is the aggregate data of the type of work our members are doing that will help the College provide accurate information to policy and decision makers.
Completing this information should around five minutes, and the more members who do, the more complete the picture of the physician and paediatrician workforce becomes. You can also update your work profile at any time.
You can complete your work profile on MyRACP or read more about it.
