Consultation forums: medical assistance in dying
Date published:

Over the past year, the RACP has been consulting and engaging with the membership on the issues raised by proposed legislation on medical assistance in dying. Our Euthanasia and Physician Assisted Death Working Party has led the RACP’s submissions on the potential impacts of legislative proposals on physicians, patients and families in several jurisdictions. The Working Party developed a discussion paper in order to assist members in the identification and consideration of the key issues that will lead to a College position.
Working Party members hosted a consultation session at RACP Congress 2017 and have been attending College committee and specialty society meetings. In addition to the verbal feedback received at these meetings, the Working Party has carefully considered the approximately 90 written submissions from Fellows, trainees, College bodies and specialty societies.
To continue member dialogue on this important issue, a number of face-to-face and online consultation events for RACP members are being planned for November – dates will be announced soon on the Medical Assistance in Dying webpage, you can also email policy@racp.edu.au to register your interest.
