Choosing Wisely NZ is facilitated by the Council of Medical Colleges (CMC) in New Zealand (NZ).
The campaign aims to promote a culture where low value and inappropriate clinical interventions are avoided, and patients and health professionals have well-informed conversations around their treatment options, leading to better decisions and outcomes.
The CMC recently hosted a Choosing Wisely symposium for NZ health professionals. National and international speakers, including keynote speaker Professor Wendy Levinson of Choosing Wisely Canada, discussed ways to implement the Choosing Wisely principles into clinical practise.
The RACP and its specialty societies have contributed Evolve lists to Choosing Wisely initiatives in Australia and NZ, and was an active supporter of the launch of Choosing Wisely NZ. Of the 18 lists available at the Choosing Wisely NZ launched, 11 were provided by the RACP, in partnership with its affiliated speciality societies*.
