Health in All Policies Position Statement launched

Today, the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) launched its new Health in All Policies (HiAP) Position Statement.

All government policies can play a part in promoting good health by recognising and responding to the social determinants of health (e.g. the conditions in which people are born, live, work and age). Planning for the health of individuals and populations in education, transport, housing, environmental policy and more, can assist in preventing or minimising the risk of illness and disease and lead to a healthier, more equitable society.

The position statement provides an overview of what HiAP entails, how this approach to policy making can impact the social determinants of health, and the role of health professionals in advocating for public policy that takes a HiAP approach. It also highlights practical strategies to positively influence the social determinants of health and their impacts on patients.
