AFRM Council Communiqué November 2020

General matters

AFRM Council Members noted the progress made on the AFRM Council Work Plan. They were informed that all Faculty Work Plans would be presented to the RACP Board for approval in December 2020.

Faculty Policy and Advocacy Committee

The Faculty Policy and Advocacy Committee advised that the Bariatric Rehabilitation Working Party were completing a literature review and planning for a survey of clinicians on relevant issues. Similarly, the Stem Cell Therapy for Children with Cerebral Palsy Working Party has been progressing well and is benefiting from consumer involvement.

The Multi-Resistant Organisms (MROs) Statement was still on hold.

An update about the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards Clinical Indicators Report was provided, which included the removal of two indicators and the introduction of new indicators. The Council Members sought clarification about the data collection process and purpose of the new indicators.

Faculty Education Committee

The Faculty Education Committee (FEC) informed the Council Members that greater flexibility has been introduced to support the trainees and supervisors through the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the FEC advised that the AFRM exams were on track to be run in 2021 exams on the proposed dates.

The FEC advised that a few candidates have been identified for the Long Case Assessment Coordinator’s position on the Faculty Assessment Committee that was currently vacant.

The Computer Based Testing Project is progressing well. This model for exam delivery was well supported by trainees.

It was confirmed that AFRM will be amongst the first group of specialties to undergo curriculum renewal.

AFRM Trainee Committee

The AFRM Trainee Committee advised that the 2020 Annual Trainee Meeting was delivered as a webinar series consisting of 3 webinars. The first webinar took place on 24 October 2020 and received positive feedback from trainees. The next webinars will be held on 14 November 2020 and 5 December 2020.

The Council Members were informed of vacancies on the Committee for a Paediatric Rehabilitation and Western Australia representatives.
