College Trainees' Committee communiqué April 2018

CTC Membership 

The Committee was advised that the current Chair and Deputy Chairs will be concluding their term in May 2018. The CTC considered Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the Chair and Deputy Chair position and endorsed their appointments to be progressed to the Board for approval. There remains a vacant Deputy Chair position available on the CTC that will be discussed at future meetings once new members are appointed to the Committee.

Due to a recent turnover in Committee membership, a number of positions have become vacant. The CTC considered EOIs for the two South Australian positions on the Committee and endorsed the appointments to be recommended for Board approval.

2018 Divisional Written Examination 

The Committee discussed the Divisional Written Examinations and received an update from the Director of Education Services and College Dean which included the issues faced, actions undertaken by the College, rationale behind the decisions made and the current status of the exams. The College is focusing on rebuilding trust and acknowledges the distress and frustration this has caused trainees, their families and their friends. The Committee had further discussion around the issues faced, back up/re-sitting examinations, health and safety of trainees, the effect on the Clinical Examinations, examination marking, trainee feedback, communication strategies and the relationship between the College and trainees.

Member Journey Mapping and Website Redesign

The CTC received a presentation update on the Member Journey Mapping Project (MJM), which was undertaken in the second half of 2017. The presentation covered how the MJM enables the College to have a deeper understanding of Members and identify and progress opportunities. The service principals of the MJM were also outlined for Committee members which include being Collaborative, Proactive, Relevant, Transparent and Human. Committee members were invited to participate in an activity to rank the six opportunity areas as well as to review the ideal state map and aspirational theories.

The Committee also participated in a card sorting activity to assist the Digital Products team in understanding the information architecture from a user perspective. Committee members were asked to sort topics from content within the website into pre-defined categories.

Trainees’ Day 2018

The CTC Committee received an update on Trainees’ Day 2018 planning and organisation. The majority of the program had been finalised and is available on the College Congress website. The issues of cost and timing (being held on Mother’s Day and close to the Paediatric Clinical Examination) were discussed as barriers to attendance. 

College Committees have been supplied with online marketing toolkits to assist in the promotion of Congress and Trainees’ Day 2018. Trainees’ Day has been promoted on the College website, RACP Quarterly and electronic direct mail. The Trainees’ Day poster has also been updated to include more information on event themes and presenters.
