Australian Capital Territory AIM

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Physician Training Network provides high quality clinical training and educational opportunities for trainees.


Overview

The ACT network offers a wide range of subspecialty rotations in addition to excellent general medicine exposure. Available rotations within the Network for adult physician trainees include:

  • The Canberra Hospital
  • North Canberra Hospital
  • Goulburn Base Hospital (2 trainees per term)
  • South East Regional Hospital (2 trainees per term)

The training program has an established track record and a structure that supports trainee preparation for success at the RACP Fellowship exam.

Educational support and training opportunities include:

  • a comprehensive written and clinical exam teaching program
  • well-attended morning clinical handover
  • grand rounds
  • regular unit scientific meetings.

The ACT Physician Training Network also hosts the well-regarded annual Canberra Clinical Course for adult physician trainees.


Eligibility

To be eligible for Basic Physician Training in the ACT, you need:

  • an Australian MBBS medical degree, or equivalent
  • eligibility for General Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or ability to apply for Registration via the Competent Authority Pathway
  • at least 2 years full-time post-graduate clinical experience by the start of the contract period
  • computer literacy skills *
*CHS is driving digital transformation in Australian healthcare with a territory wide Digital Health Record. The role requires computer literacy skills to complete documentation and use IT systems effectively. You’ll need to become proficient with the Digital Health Record and stay up to date with system changes and updates.

Apply

Eligible applicants are invited to apply via ACT Health. Positions are typically advertised between July to August each year. Applicants recruited during the main cycle may be offered contracts covering the full duration of training.
