The Aotearoa NZ AFRM Committee (Aotearoa NZ AFRMC) is seeking expressions of interest from Fellows residing in Aotearoa NZ for the Policy and Advocacy Representative role.

As the Aotearoa NZ Representative this role also sits on the Rehabilitation Medicine Policy and Advocacy Committee (PDF) (FPAC) and is the conduit on matters between that committee and the Aotearoa NZ AFRMC. 

Kaupapa o te Komiti | Purpose of the Committee

The Aotearoa NZ AFRMC:
Aims to support the professional careers of Fellows and Trainees of the Faculty in Aotearoa NZ.

• Advance the interests of AFRM in Aotearoa New Zealand.
• Actively contribute an Aotearoa NZ perspective.
• Influence and implement the strategic direction of the Faculty to ensure relevance of AFRM activity in the Aotearoa NZ context.
• Develop and maintain relationships with relevant health related organisations (including non-government organisations and consumer groups) and regulators in Aotearoa NZ to support initiatives that improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders, in particular Māori.
• Support appropriate initiatives that will assist Fellows and trainees develop their cultural competence.
• Actively engage with Government, other non-government agencies and consumer groups, and contribute to work on Aotearoa NZ specific health-related matters, including workforce.

Takohanga | Responsibilities

This role attends two Committees both of which adhere to the Governance of College Bodies By-law (PDF) for meeting parameters:

• Meet up to four times a year, of which one may be kanohi ki te kanohi | face to face
  • Aotearoa NZ AFRMC in Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington or
  • FPAC Sydney, Australia.
• Travel costs are covered in accordance with the RACP Travel Policy. (PDF)
• The remainder of the meetings, up to 3 per committee would be hui-ā-ataata | via zoom.

Paearu Mātauranga, Paearu Wheako | Knowledge and Experience Criteria

• Be a RACP Fellow of AFRM, who resides in Aotearoa NZ
• High level communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to build positive partnerships.
• Computer literate with access to a computer.
• Ability and capacity to prepare appropriately and diligently for participation in RACP activities.
